Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor has spoken out against his former protege Marylin Manson, saying the rocker "has become a dopey clown".
The pair who used to be good friends appeared to be drifting apart in the late 90s before it seems they'd patched things up with Manson's appearance in NIN's Starfuckers, inc. video (in which bizarrely Reznor throws Manson's Mechanical Animals album in the toilet). Reznor's latest comments, suggests any friendship is now definitely over.
In an interview with Mojo magazine he says, “He is a malicious guy and will step on anybody’s face to succeed and cross any line of decency. Seeing him now, drugs and alcohol now rule his life and he’s become a dopey clown.”
But it wasn't always that way according to Reznor (pictured, centre), speaking about Manson's behaviour at the time of NIN's The Downward Spiral tour in 1994 “His drive for success and self-preservation was so high, he pretended to be fucked up a lot when he wasn’t.”
In the closest he gets to a compliment he states, “He used to be the smartest guy in the room. And as a fan of his talents, I hope he gets his shit together.”
