Beck Hansen has interviewed Tom Waits for his recently revamped website. The new project, Irrelevant Topics will see him chat to artists about "various subjects without any promotional pretext or editorial direction".
In the first installment the gravelly experimental crooner Waits spoke to him for about an hour on a manner of topics including both of their experiences growing up in LA, a hot dog shaped car that used to drive around the neighbourhood, a woman using a Van Gogh painting as a sunshade and the way music is taken to mean different things to people once it's left the artist.
Peppered with Waits' trademark observations and witticisms, it's not your normal artist interview then... but what did you expect from someone who records the sound of bacon frying and then loops it backwards?
