To look at and to listen to Alberta Cross conjures imagery of rock-romantic gents sat somewhere near America's sun-soaked west coast playing along to their favourite Lynard Skynyrd numbers. Their actual origin - London's tropical east end - has some how managed to stage the beginnings of a rootsy, nu-folk quintet about ready for the big time.
Atypical to the current synthesised vogue (La Roux et al), Alberta Cross' release -ATX - offers a folk/blues grizzle, supercharged with a rock virility reminiscent of Jane's Addictions better works.
A dixy-rock shuffle and sliding guitar lay foundations to a galloping three minutes of radio friendly psychedelia. As a precursor to the up and coming debut album, Broken Side of Time this is a well executed musical amuse bouche.
Alberta Cross on Myspace.
Album Broken Side of Time is out September 8.
