Dylan does Christmas

Comments

Bob Dylan is apparently working on a new Christmas flavoured album, with several songs already in the can, according to an American website.

The record would be the first Christmas album of his five decade spanning career and is likely to fuel more speculation about his religious beliefs since his conversion to born again Christianity and subsequent relinquishing in the early 80's following his second Gospel album, Saved.

This period of his musical output was and still is unpopular with many Dylan fans and fellow musicians (Shortly before his murder in December 1980, John Lennon penned his song Serve Yourself in response to Dylan's religious Gotta Serve Somebody).

Website Bully! Pulpit claims four songs have already been recorded including Here Comes Santa Claus, I'll Be Home For Christmas, Must Be Santa and O Little Town of Bethlehem.

No official confirmation has been made about the album yet.

  • I myself am a Dylan enthusiast, but the thought of a festive-flavoured album by ANYONE simply chills my soul. I hate to sound cynical about the project but the man is gettin' on a bit, I'd hate for the final release of his long and illustrious career turn out to be more useful as a coaster. Together, Through Life had some great songs, let's not throw in the towel just yet, eh Bob?

  • It's very wise from Bob to seve a vast great part of his audience on this Christmas with such an anticipated work. I for one, I see such an album is a normal progression of th thoughts, and feelings displayed in the previous great quatro Out of Mind-Love & Theft-Modern Times-Together Through Life.

  • Maybe it would serve better as an EP, like the brilliant Glasvegas one from last year. I think he can pull it off though. Either way, It will be speculated on by the Dylanologists long after the turkey sandwiches have been eaton!
