Woodstock 40, the festival to commemorate the original legendary event has been cancelled. The promoters have had to scrap the commemorative event after failing to secure funding.
The celebration of the legendary festival which took place between August 15-18, 1969 was originally due to go ahead on the anniversary of the original but had been pushed back to September to tie-in with Climate Week before now being cancelled.
Organisers couldn't raise enough cash to stage it, with conservative estimates stating the cost of putting on the free event at $8-10 million dollars, others at closer to $18 million. Organiser Michael Lang who also exec-produced the 1969 event admitted the money hadn't materialised "It just didn't come together" he told US paper the Times Herald Record.
Speaking to Billboard earlier in the year he indicated he hoped to see The Who, Santana, Crosby, Stills and Nash, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers at the event.
He hasn't ruled out a Woodstock 50 though, adding "The most interesting thing about doing it in September was Climate Week, should another issue emerge and it makes sense for us to do it then we'll do it".
