The artist born Jamie Alexander Treays' new album Kings and Queens is a mighty fine one. In fact it's a genre-defying and marvellous effort; a lyrically brilliant, no-filler album of original pop songs; a small masterpiece.
Not that he has fully vented his spleen with his second full-length album; First single Sticks 'n' Stones, released back in June, was a four-track EP, and Mr. T has repeated the trick for this weeks' Chaka Demus - a chirpy, feel-good track that provides the upcoming album with one of its purest pop moments.
Typically sounding like he is standing 2 inches from your face with pint in hand and saliva flying in your direction, Jamie T spits lyrics about touching the sky, bloodtypes, two world wars and one world cup, far removed from anything done by the often referenced Mike Skinner or Alex Turner. The Clash however, are not as distant.
Happy days indeed.
The Chaka Demus EP is out now. Kings & Queens is out September 7.
