Do you remember, about 10 years ago, a fringe scene that was home to bands like American Football, Owen and The Get Up Kids? Brilliant wasn't it! Well, in a welcome renaissance of the traditional emo sound, - no, not My Chemical Romance - On Histories of Rosenberg, have hand crafted their fantastic new single Am I Awake.
Managing to stay the right side of wholesome - you know the twee dross that you hear layering mobile phone adverts? Yeah, not that side - Am I Awake glides unctuously through soft melodies that follow a refreshing linear structure. Once it's done, it's done. The song climaxes with a pleasing, Sigur Ros style, tsunami of oddly timed distortion that descends to a twinkling end. It's a bit prog, it's a big post-rock and it's a bit good.
Whether it's a five-minute holiday for your stressed out brain or a touch of late 90s nostalgia you're after, we give these autumnal charms the thumbs up.
I Am Alive is taken from their self-titled debut EP which was released yesterday.
