Sussex police are reviewing the case surrounding the death of former Rolling Stones guitarist Brian Jones, in the wake of information handed over by investigative journalist Scott Jones.
Brian Jones was found dead in a swimming pool over 40 years ago. The official inquest ruled death by misadventure, though the post-mortem exam stated that there were no traces of illegal substances in his body and just the equivalent of three and a half pints of beer.
Now, according to the Mail On Sunday, a four-year investigation by Scott Jones led to a lengthy conversation with senior Sussex police officers in July. Detectives are now studying the previously unreleased documents, and may launch a new investigation if they feel there is sufficient evidence to do so.
In a statement a spokesman for Sussex police said, "These papers will be examined by Sussex Police, but it is too early to comment at this time as to what the outcome will be."
The police force have previously rejected any requests to re-open the case.
