Favourite Beatles songs:
Helter Skelter
One of rock's great wigouts and the definitive answer to the wrong-headed notion that McCartney was the conservative one.
A Day In The Life
Over-familiarity tends to, wholly inaccurately, do for Sgt Pepper - but really, has pop music ever sound so extraordinary as it does here?
You've Got To Hide Your Love Away
This, and roughly 50 or so other songs, offer conclusive proof that anyone who claims not to like The Beatles is either: a/ Lying; b/ Deaf; or c/ An idiot.

She Said She Said
It reminds me of the late, great John Brooker - my childhood friend - smashing the windows of WH Smith's in Putney so he could be arrested in order to ask policemen if they knew that John Lennon had planted secret anti-masonic messages in Revolver.
Hey Bulldog
The song we played to celebrate John Brooker's release from the police
station.
Blackbird
A song I played on the day of John Brooker's funeral.
Remaster I'll be listening to first:
Revolver
Apart from the secret masonic messages (which I am yet to fully decode), this marks the last album that The Beatles looked really cool.

Ticket To Ride
My mother had a vinyl copy of Help! lying around back in the day and this track, with its 12-string Rickenbacker motif, made a huge impression on me
as a youngster.
Tomorrow Never Knows
All the backwards guitars, squawks, Lennon's treated vocal... not forgetting Ringo's shuffling drum pattern... still send shivers down the spine.
Strawberry Fields Forever
As a kid, the imagery evoked in the lyrics took me off to a far-flung place - it still does. Sonically, it's outstanding. Lennon's vocal alters during the song - so what at first seems dreamy later becomes creepy. The hypnotic outro, too, is still something to behold.

Revolver

Here, There and Everywhere
I love the fact that each verse starts with one of the words from the title.
Something
George Harrison's songwriting ability too often gets hidden in the shadow of Lennon & McCartney. Even the lilting beauty of Something was a double A-Side with Come Together but it's a shining example of his work.
The Ballad of John and Yoko
A million miles from the early stuff, it's an honest and revealing insight into what life was like as a Beatle.
Remaster I'll be listening to first:
Can't beat the White Album.
