Slow Club - Trophy Room

Comments

Like Bright Eyes before them, Sheffield duo Slow Club take the oh-so-familiar folk/alt country recipe, add some original quirkiness and end up somewhat removed from their own starting point.

Trophy Room, as such, evolves from a charming and galloping folk-pop tune into a, well, fast-paced charming and galloping folk-pop tune, its engaging likeability being emphasised by a witty, Blink 182-referencing music video.

Perhaps not so much Bob Dylan as Tilly And The Wall as well as the aforementioned Conor Oberst circa I'm Wide Awake It's Morning, Slow Club still occupy a desirable place in a scene that has seen its fanbase explode. And, although bearing no aural similarity whatsoever to the likes of Blood Red Shoes or White Stripes, they do make you wonder how two people can extrude a sound so rich.

Yeah So is out now.
