A post-mortem into the death of Boyzone singer Stephen Gately is set to be carried out this week.
A spokesperson for the family of Gately, who was residing in his holiday home in Majorca with long-term partner Andrew Cowles at the time of his death, stated that the 33-year old singer died of natural causes, although no official cause of death has been confirmed. Spanish police have stated that there were no signs of violence or a suicide note
Police are said to be focusing on events taking place during Gately and Cowles' night out on Friday, in which a Bulgarian man was invited back to the couple's £1 million home early the next morning. Gately's body was discovered by Cowles on Saturday afternoon.
Tributes from pop stars and fans have been pouring in since the announcement of Gately's death. His close friend Sir Elton John said that "Stephen was the kindest, gentlest soul. We send our love and condolences to his partner Andy and to his friends everywhere."
Gately rose to fame through the successful Irish boy-band Boyzone, who released six UK #1 singles and three #1 albums between 1994 and 1999. He released one solo album, 2000's A New Beginning. A message from the remaining Boyzone members is posted on Gately's official website, which reads:
'We are completely devastated by the loss of our friend and brother, Stephen. We have shared such wonderful times together over the years and were all looking forward to sharing many more. Stephen was a beautiful person in both body and spirit. He lit up our lives and those of the many friends he had all over the world. Our love and sympathy go out to Andrew and Stephen's family. We love you and will miss you forever, 'Steo'.' From Ronan, Keith, Mikey & Shane
