Coffee giant Starbucks is being sued by long-running singer-songwriter Carly Simon.
Simon, who had her first #1 hit in 1973 with You're So Vain, is suing the corporation for between $5m and $10m for "concealment of material facts", "tortious interference" with the contract, and "unlawful, unfair and fraudulent business practices". She also claims she didn't receive the whole advance she was promised (initially $1m, then reduced to $575 000).
According to The Guardian, the dispute dates back to the downsizing of Starbucks' now defunct music division Hear Music in April 2008, which took place five days before Simon's 24th studio album This Kind Of Love was released. The day-to-day management was then handed over to Concord Music Group, with promotion for the album, according to Simon, disintegrating. Simon is currently reportedly in financial trouble, and will be releasing a new album entitled Never Been Gone on her son Ben Taylor's label later this month.
Hear Music released, among other albums, Paul McCartney's Memory Almost Full and the tenth anniversary edition of Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill.
