Southampton trio Band Of Skulls, hot on the heels of an inclusion on the omnipresent Twilight soundtrack, found time in the middle of their extensive touring schedule (on a wi-fi enabled tour bus) to provide Q with an exclusive peek into some of the tracks that have inspired them over the years. Sam Cooke, Flaming Lips and M.I.A. are all included, not to mention a fair share of indie credentials.
As they say themselves: These tracks are maybe more of a reminder of a certain time in our lives, not necessarily influences on our music...but here goes:

Shine A Light - Spiritualized
Myself and Emma went to L.A last year to see Spiritualized supporting Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds at the Hollywood bowl before everything kicked off for us, this song was definitely a big moment, kinda magical.
What Is And What Should Never Be - Led Zeppelin

This song has always been a favourite amongst the band, great live version as well on 'How the West was Won'.
A Change Is Gonna Come - Sam Cooke
This is a beautiful song, such heart felt vocals, floating string arrangements, just greatness.
That's Amore - Dean Martin
I used to work in an old mans pub in Southampton, this old cocky guy called Charlie would come in everyday, drink half pints of lager with Jameson chasers, an amazing character, he'd dominate the jukebox all day with songs like this. Takes me back to those days..

Trick Bag - The Artesians
A great garage rock n roll track, i always used to play this when DJ'ing at our club nights, it has the most chaotic drumming and its bursting with energy the whole way through, love it
Mighty Mighty - Baby Huey and the Babysitters
This always gets me in a good mood. its got a big live atmosphere, he has a huge soul voice but only got to release one album as he died far too young, around the same time as Hendrix and Joplin, he was a true legend
Fruits Of My Labour - Lucinda Williams
This song has the perfect effortless country drawl about it,,her singing is heartbreaking, its smoothed over a few hungover mornings!
Do You Realize?? - The Flaming Lips
Wayne Coyne has a way with words. i love the lyrics of this song, beautiful and tragic and true. i love the way their live show always seems to unite the whole crowd and this song always seems to resonate with a lot of people. having that many people singing back to you must be quite a feeling.

Paper Planes - M.I.A.
This song makes me feel many conflicting emotions its bouncy yet brutal, danceable yet full of melancholy. also a classic band DJ request on our rare nights off.
Man Of The World - Fleetwood Mac
From the Peter Green era mac. this was the soundtrack to the final days of making our album. and continues to strike a chord as we've spent the entire year away from home.
Nude - Radiohead

Again i just love the sad ones, for a band to deliver a song of such stunning beauty after a genre defining career......I'm lost for words.
