Raised by Mormon parents, a background in folk music, friends with Tom Waits and in the later years touring partners with diverse acts such as Elbow, Polyphonic Spree and Mark Knopfler, California-born Hoop is quite the unique personality.
Four Dreams is the first single from her second album,Hunting My Dress, and represents her fondness for genre-hopping nicely with strains of lap steel guitars and Gwen Stefani-esque harmonies layered over an unbelievably chirpy one-two beat. Oompah for the weekend indeed.
An acquired taste perhaps, but Hoop's contribution to the sphere of eccentric singer-songwriters revels in diversity and originality, often brilliantly so. Truly inspirational.
