You have to find it amusing. Despite The Modfather's oft-publicised comradery with a certain Mr Gallagher, Weller's latest single sounds suspiciously like a britpop version of Gorillaz.
7 & 3.. is the first single from his forthcoming tenth solo studio album Wake Up the Nation and, in addition to incorporate a fabulous Albarn-esque melody line, is absurdly great.
A reoccurring strain of flirtatious and galloping drums lays the foundation for a chaos of guitar- and piano lines that constantly threatens to tip the glass of insanity, but somehow manages to stay inside the realm of classic Weller-rock.
If Noel and Damon ever had a love child, this would be it. Only prettier.
Now bring on the album.
