18-year old heartthrob Alex Gardner, tipped as one of the big names of 2010, has certainly risen to the opportunity. Invited by Paolo Nutini as support during a tour of Scotland, he was quickly summoned to the aid of Paloma Faith and Mika, before bagging a record deal with Universal/A&M.
Blessed with the kind of soulful/hurtful voice every X Factor contestant (and the rest of us) frequently dream of, we're keeping a close eye on this young Scot.
