It's been three decades since the BRITs arrived on the musical scene. Along the way there's been a few surprises, not to mention some memorable awards ceremonies and the occasional Mick Fleetwood/Sam Fox moment or unbooked "Jarvis performance".

The nominees for 2010 are in, along with previously announced Ellie Goulding picking up the Critics Choice, Robbie WIlliams bags a gong for Outstanding Contribution to Music.

The British Male Solo Artist category also sees Robbie compete with Mika, Calvin Harris and Paolo Nutini, whilst in the females Lily Allen, Bat For Lashes, Pixie Lott and Leona Lewis battle it out with the somewhat-ubiquitious-at-the-moment Florence & The Machine.

There's also a special thirtieth anniversary category for the best album from the 10 highest selling albums from the past 30 years of Best Album winners, got that? - good. Took us a minute or two to comprehend aswell... here's nominees (and winners already announced) in full:

  • this years crowd of hopefuls are just pittiful.
    i could'nt be bothered to listen to any of that dross apart from bat for lashes and ladyhawke who are amazing. and robbie williams getting outstandingness award.excuse me while i choke and die of abstinence from the imoral world

  • Really? Best British albums in the past 30 years?... they missed out so many better albums can't believe it....THEY DIDN'T EVEN ENTER THE STONE ROSES DEBUT...which has been said, is the best British debut of all time...
