First Aid Kit - Hard Believer

Comments

As the popular Beatles legend goes, the young Fabs, at a point when they were merely a trio of guitar-wielding hopefuls, turned up for a gig only for the promoter to question the absence of a drummer. "The rhythm is in the guitars" quipped one or more of the Fabs, which is a great quote even though they later (thankfully) proved themselves wrong by discovering Hamburg, sex, drugs and Ringo.

Swedish teenage sibling folk duo First Aid Kit unsurprisingly operate in a genre far removed from the most influential pop group of all time.

Rather tracing their sonic roots to that fairly large continent across the Atlantic, Johanna and Klara Söderberg's vivid harmonies and the lovelorn lyrics of Hard Believer certainly sends thoughts to Fleet Foxes, Conor Oberst and everything else alt-country, while the sisters treat the song to an instrument section where - you guessed it - the rhythm is in the guitars (and a tambourine).

Their debut album Big Black &The Blue is out later this month, and, take our word for it, it's marvellous.
