Midlake - Acts Of Man

Comments

Texan five-piece Midlake are among the few acts to appear in "Bands of Next Year" features twice. Their magnificent second album, 2006's The Trials Of Van Occupanther, was preceded by a range of big words, a phenomenon repeated ahead of their latest (and indeed celebrated) release, The Courage Of Others, out next week.

From that album comes Acts Of Man, a pristine and sore ballad that echoes Neil Young's more downbeat moments.

Thanks to the magic of the creative minds that circulate the Internet, the song is here accompanied by a haunting clip from the 1927 silent movie Sunrise - A Song of Two Humans by F.W. Murnau. Cue one of QTheMusic's favourite unofficial music videos. Enjoy.

Also performing tonight: The Kissaway Trail.

Make sure to check out our online gallery and write-up right here tomorrow, and the full review in a future issue of Q Magazine.

  • Saw these guys in Leicester last Saturday - utterly brilliant! This song was a particular highlight along with a number of other tracks off the new album that although I hadn't heard before, just rolled gracefully over you. Those along with some of the old favourites like Bandits and Roscoe made it a gig, band and album that will be hard to beat this year!

  • I saw these guys several years back for the paltry sum of six quid at the Hanbury Ballroom in Brighton, after reading a tiny article about them in the local free rag. By the end of the night I was totally blown away by the amazing harmonies and felt that I'd just experienced some mystical and surreal journey. I've been a fan ever since, but sadly haven't been able to see them this time around. So you lucky people out there who have, please don't rub it in! Ta ta
