Amnesty International have begun a new campaign to find out the whereabouts of two 'disappeared' Iranian music journalists.
As concern for their well-being and possible torture fears grow, Amnesty have called on the Iranian authorities to reveal the location of two music journalists, Behrang Tonekaboni and Kayvan Farzin and also give reason for their detainment. This follows what appears to be an enforced disappearance of the two men and on a later occasion, Behrang's mother.
Both journalists at monthly music publication Farhang va Ahang, they were arrested at the magazine's offices on January 5. Behrang's mother Lily Farhadpour, 47, also a journalist and a member of Iranian NGO Mothers for Peace was arrested separately at her home on January 20. They all appear to have been subjected to enforced disappearance and Amnesty believes them to be at risk of torture.
Speaking about these incidents, Amnesty International UK Director Kate Allen said, "We're seriously concerned for the safety of Behrang, Kayyan, Lily and countless others. The crackdown on dissent and free speech since Iran's disputed election has been brutal and we've received many reports of torture." adding "All three should be protected from torture and allowed access to their families, lawyers and the medical assistance that they need.
Amnesty is asking people to go to http://www.amnesty.org.uk/behrang to take action by sending an email to the Iranian authorities.
