Music Matters launches

Comments

Elements of the UK music industry have joined forces to launch a new initiative to remind listeners of the value of the music they feel may be being forgotten as music becomes more pervasive than ever in our lives.

Music Matters is the biggest industry initiative of its kind and involves artists, retailers, songwriters, labels and managers - all keen to remind listeners of the significance and value of music.

19 out of every 20 tracks downloaded from the net are done so illegally and Music Matters hopes to educate consumers on how to identify legitimate music sites by putting their trust mark on the approved services.

Originator of Music Matters, Universal Music's Niamh Byrne (former manager of Blur and Gorillaz) said, "For many people music is the single most important common cultural element of their daily lives, but as it becomes more available it can become invisible, disposable... we want to remind the listening audience why music matters to them."

Chris Morrison from CMO Management added: "This is the right time for Music Matters. Musicians need champions and encouragement right now more than ever as they work out how to make a living. We need music in our lives and we need people to dedicate their lives to making it."

The collective have created a series of animated films about the artists involved, which will be shown on supporting websites as well as the Music Matters website at www.whymusicmatters.org
Some of them can also be seen below.

Q supports the remuneration of artists through legitimate music downloading.
