Today Doves release a definitive 3-disk package featuring a best-of compilation, a DVD with videos of some of their finest work, and a collection of rarities, B-sides and alternative versions of tracks - you can only do that if you're a world class band.
Coming single Andalucia proves exactly why.
Doves have that rare quality that makes their music bona fide. They retain their northern origins through the soulful tone of lead Jimi Goodwin, but lifting riffs and building chorus' typical of their work, elevate their sound to another level.
There is something quite drive-time about Andalucia and despite the lyrics "the love you bring won't mean a thing if you don't win", the final cut is more upbeat.
Last year's release, Kingdom of Rust, was the band's fourth album in nine years and finally set them apart from other Manchester troubadours, Elbow. Details of Doves' latest collection sparked rumours it was a farewell offering - but thankfully they insist otherwise.
The Places Between: The Best of Doves is out now.
