Hope Sandoval And The Warm Inventions - Trouble

Good things come to those who wait... Divine, hypnotic, irresistible things come to those who wait for eight years.

Hope Sandoval, the iconic vocalist from nineties band Mazzy Star, at last returns with accompaniment from My Bloody Valentine drummer Colm O'Ciosoig and Irish backing group Dirt Blue Jene.

Single, Trouble, is the first to be taken from the coming 11-track release Through The Devil Softly and promises a confident return to form with a mini-tour planned for May.

Lyrics "the trouble with the trouble, is the trouble in me" begin what is a sublime folk song with swaying rhythms and breathy vocals, Trouble sounds as if it was recorded some time ago and has just been dusted off after being found in a haunted old attic.

Its psychedelic qualities are matched with a teasing video, following the fleetingly-seen Hope around a country house in a ra-ra skirt and boots. Enjoy this Q exclusive below:

  • This video is superb, even if too many fakings. You are very pretty and really sexy, but it is damage which one cannot appreciate sufficiently your beautiful glance, Hope.
One of your French admirors, Serge.

  • The video was, ok. But the song was great. If the album is anything like it i'll pick it up. And I havent bought anything from her since Mazzy Star.

  • This has always been one of my favourite songs from the record, so nice to see a video for it finally. I'm just wondering why it took till April to release a video for a record that's been out since last September? Regardless, it's nice to see.

@Jane: Through The Devil Softly is by far my favourite record of 2009. All I'll say is - it's simply very, very classy, heart-breaking stuff. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

  • @Jane The album is outstanding, I have listened to it nearly every day since I purchased it!

The video's strength is of course the occasional glimpses of Hope. If you have not been harboring a semi secret infatuation with Hope for 15 years then the video will not impress. If you have, please stop it. I am hoping her options are eventually reduced to just me. :P

  • Lovely is Hope and haunting is her voice, the site reminds me of a place I would frequent as a child. I like feeling haunted.

  • as always a very cool video for a very cool lady. Hope is a legend in her own time. I've encountered Hope in Philidelphia, USA after one of her concerts. She's not shy at all. I saw her back stage and 5 of us (3 girls and 2 guys) spoke with her. She got a little angry I took a photo of her, and just for revenge she took my camera and took a photo of me?! It was an experience I will never forget. She's cool, she has that Mexican chick attitude but without the horrible accent. She's truly one of a kind. I love her.

  • She's beautiful, I would marry this woman on the spot. She's such an artist, poet and singer. She has a little attitude, it's cute, to the untrained eye she seems shy, but she's not shy I think people just annoy her and she tries to avoid them. Can't blame her, people in general suck. God I love her and her music.

  • The dreamlike visuals in this video are a good match for the haunting beauty of your voice. And, speaking of beauty, your natural good looks shine on as always.

  • wow, its weird to know that I used to love, adore, and be totally mesmerized by this music and singer. From 19 to 33, wow its weird now i think its still pretty cool, but this is totally music for people who are on drugs.
