Lára, the self-styled Queen of Icelandic alternative pop, has been announced as support for Amy Macdonald at Q The Music Club Live at The Hard Rock Cafe on June 9.
Having spent her childhood growing up on a musical diet of Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave and Tom Waits she now name checks Goldfrapp, Bat For Lashes, Lily Allen and Kate Nash as influences. In keeping with more contemporary circles, she's also recently collaborated with Irish singer-songwriter Damien Rice.
With two previous albums to her name, 2003's Standing Still and 2006's Þögn, Lára remains relatively unknown on these shores. Whether that will change remains to be seen but the pop sensibility displayed on her new record Surprise if anything, won't harm her chances.
