Matthew And The Atlas - I Will Remain

While the sun is up you'll find Matthew And The Atlas (real name Matthew Hegarty) tending to designer shrubbery as a landscape gardener. But at dusk he swaps a hoe for a guitar to deliver his own brand of tender, modern folk.

I Will Remain opens with Hegarty's smooth dulcet voice - a voice that sounds like it has told a thousand tales of heartbreak and has only got better by the day. It is the lead track from the To The North EP, which follows support slots with Mumford And Sons earlier in the year.

The earthiness of his sound may lead to comparisons with Ray Lamontagne but additional female backing vocals and later hand-claps on this track show a divine originality to his work which gently kneads the ears.

The combination with a banjo creates a powerful and comforting piece of music that is more than impressive for a debut.
