Detroit Social Club - Prophecy

Comments

Asked to describe themselves you'd get, "Imagine the chorus vocals of Loser by Beck, with the drums of Army of Me by Bjork, layered with the guitars of I'm Bored by Iggy Pop and the melody of the Beach Boys' God Only Knows.  This is what Detroit Social Club, who actually are from Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, define their sound as. Our Q Magazine reviewer (Q287), also found echoes of Kasabian and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.

Aswell as touring with fellow Newcastle home-towners the Futureheads, this six-piece formed in 2007 have already seen active tour duty with Oasis and Razorlight and recently headlined the inaugural New To Q Tour, so perhaps destined not to be on the smaller venue circuit for much longer. Prophecy is the lead single from their forthcoming debut entitled Existence, produced by Jim Abiss, previously known for his work with the Arctic Monkeys and Kasabian.

Lead singer David Burn also cites his grandfather's piano music as an influence growing up "He made music fun for me", he added. The audience at the New To Q Tour seemed to agree as much last Tuesday in London.

Want to see Behind The Scenes? check the video from their New To Q Tour rehearsals further down the page. The band talk us through each of their corners in an informal sweeping camera shot Jools Holland would be proud of.

Single Prophecy is out May 24.
Debut album Existence is released May 31.
