Lára is Iceland's self styled pop queen.
Having grown up on the music of Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave and Tom Waits she now name checks Goldfrapp, Bat For Lashes, Lily Allen and Kate Nash as influences. So fair to say a mix of the the theatrical, esoteric and mainstream. In keeping with the latter, she's also recently collaborated with Irish singer-songwriter Damien Rice.
She's not that well known in the UK, despite two previous albums - 2003's Standing Still and 2006's Þögn, however the pop sensibility displayed on her new record Surprise won't harm her chances. Not to mention forthxoming UK dates and a support slot for Amy Macdonald at Q The Music Club on June 9.
I Wanna Be is as quirky as the genre Icelandic Alternative Pop would suggest, with an upbeat horn section and oompah firmly in place amidst naive lyrics and, naturally, a suitably surreal music video, courtesy of British film-maker Henry Bateman.
Lára's third album Surprise is out now on Record Records.
