Communion is a musical/fan collective ran by Kev Jones and co-organiser Ben Lovett from Mumford & Sons. Incorporating a record label and a club night that takes place in Leeds, Brighton, they showcase some of the most interesting and talented emerging folk acts with a roster that reads like a who's who of new British folk artists. This week they take over our Track of the Days for a Communion special, with either an exclusive preview stream or the track available for you to download free. Kev kicks off with his first pick, the multi-talented Pete Roe:
"Pete has been a constant presence on the folk scene in London for a few years, appearing with many artists but most recently as Laura Marling's multi-instrumentalist right-hand-man. Pete is an extraordinary talent in his own right with a unique guitar technique and a voice that is beautiful and instantly recognisable. This title track from his forthcoming EP The Merry-Go-Round, released on June 7 is one of the saddest songs I have ever heard. It's about a merry-go-round horse that falls in love with the horse in front, constantly doomed to chase it's love for eternity and is an elegantly simple song reminiscent of Nick Drake's Pink Moon, recorded live in one take."
