The Cheek - Just One Night
The Cheek are an audacious five piece, their new single Just One Night is a hedonistic youthful hark which oozes energy and ambition. Originally known as Cheeky Cheek And The Nosebleeds, the group shortened their name. Presumably the decision was made because they needed an alias that would fit onto a bass drum as they embark on a hefty headline UK tour.
The Cheek is much more snappy and impactful, so too is this catchy release. At just 14 years of age these lads got together as school friends. The confident self belief they exude has proppelled them into the limelight. Now with their debut album Lover's Quarrel out in the Summer on A&M records, it will be very difficult to turn the other cheek.
Ed Buller, who has previously worked with Pulp and Suede, assisted with this project. The result is art-rock with attitude, they even put a light bulb in a microwave in the accompanying video. If the sparks from the light bulb were not avant-garde enough then you'll think they've blown a fuse when a pillow fight ensues. To top it all off a fire extinguisher is anarchically set off, but to be fair you can be forgiven for assuming this group are ablaze. Certainly Lover's Quarrel will be heating things up to a simmer this summer.
