U2 Pull-out of Glastonbury Festival

Comments

U2 have confirmed they will not be playing at this year's Glastonbury Festival, following a phone call from Bono to festival organisers this morning.

During the call, the U2 frontman told organiser Michael Eavis of his disappointment "I'm heartbroken. We really wanted to be there to do something really special - we even wrote a song especially for the Festival."

Speaking about the call Eavis commented, "It was obvious from our telephone conversation that U2 are hugely disappointed. Clearly, they were looking forward to playing the Pyramid Stage as much as we were looking forward to watching them. At this point, we have no comment to make about possible replacements for U2's Friday night slot. Instead, we would simply like to send Bono our very best wishes for a full and speedy recovery."

Speculation is already rife as to who will replace them, with Dizzee Rascal and Coldplay rumoured to be being lined up to headline the Pyramid Stage on Friday, June 25.

Further to the injury, the band have also had to cancel 16 US Tour dates as Bono is ordered to rest and recuperate following his treatment.
