UNKLE: Spotify Playlist

Comments

May 10 sees the release of UNKLE's fourth studio album Where Did The Night Fall. An eclectic collection of cult collaborations, it includes guest vocals from Screaming Trees/Gutter Twins frontman Mark Lanegan as well as appearances from more unknown acts The Black Angels and San Fran psych-ensemble Sleepy Sun.

Not that the absence of A-listers has done the album any harm - it was rewarded with four stars in Q, the reviewer praising several of the tracks as "among the best tracks [James] Lavelle has produced".

So what influenced UNKLE in the process of making this acclaimed fourth LP? Krautrock and disco apparently, as evident in this exclusive Spotify playlist, assembled by the protagonists for your aural pleasure.

The London duo is also performing with The Heritage Orchestra at DeLe Warr Pavillions in Bexhill on July 10 for a unique interpretation of UNKLE's music through a 30-piece orchestra.

Arthur Russell - A Little Lost
Uplifting, spaced out cello with Nick Drake-inspired vocal.

Ulrich Schnauss - On My Own (Robin Guthrie Mix)
Ulrich's stand-out track from his career. Sounds like Michael Ropher meets Fords Of Canada. Amazing.

So many great tracks on Four Tet's new LP. This one stands out for me.

Can - Spoon
Favorite band ever and my favorite track by Can.

Joan As Police Woman - Christobel
Driving 'Kraut' rock-inspired track with a vocal sound that makes you want to die.

Harpers Bizarre - Witchi Tai To
Makes you want to be on a beach watching the sun set.

Broken Social Scene - Anthems For A Seventeen Year-Old Girl
Uplifting, madness!

Clinic - Distortions
So beautiful, but so moody at the same time.

Hot Chocolate - Put Your Love In Me
The production from Mickey Most was out of this world.

The Passions - I'm In Love With A German Film Star
One of my guilty pleasures.

Shirley Lites - Heat You Up (Melt You Down)
The best disco record ever made in my option.

Caribou - After Hours
The closes thing to Can since Can.

Marc Moulin - Humpty Dumpty
The perfect ringtone for your iphone.

Moebious Plank Neumeier - All Repro
Sounds like Kraftwerk in a penny arcade.

Brian Eno - The Big Ship
The perfect way to finish a playlist.
