Ed Harcourt's Glasto - Spotify Playlist

Comments

Ed Harcourt recently returned with his first album since 2006. Lustre, his fifth full-length LP, was released on June 14 - just in time for Glastonbury, where he's playing the Greenpeace stage today. So what is more suitable than an exclusive, Glasto-themed playlist, hand-picked by Harcourt himself? Not much we reckon...

Included in this rather eclectic selection of from the line-up, you will find everything from melancholic folk through Mexican-themed punk to chart-bothering pop, which, of course, is what Glastonbury is all about.

Click on the link to get to the playlist and scroll down for Harcourt's own comments on his 11 picks of the Glasto pack!

Lustre is released on Piano Wold Recordings on June 14. Make sure to check out Q288 for the full appraisal of Harcourt's latest effort and get a sneak preview of some of the tracks on Ed's website now.

1: Snoop Dogg - My Medicine
Snoop does country. The legendary Willie Nelson is on the same stage. A duet must be in order although I hope Snoop hasn't given up the weed for Willie's sake as his stash probably won't last long.

2: The Magic Numbers - The Pulse
My good brothers & sisters comeback single, Romeo gives another masterclass in magnificent & soulful songwriting. They're on stage criminally early so catch 'em while you can.

3: The XX - Islands
I can't believe how young this band are, they're so damn good. Like a glorious combo of the Cure & Tricky. I think they'll be on as the sun sets which is swell.

4: Mariachi El Bronx - Cell Mates
Good punk rock band but I like the fact that they decided to do this, I prefer them as Mariachis; actually I like anything that's mariachi to be honest.

5: Midlake - Head Home
Midlake are a sexy bunch of guys! Especially Paul the bass player.

6: Lissie - In Sleep
Lissie is a great new singer on Fat Possum; we wrote a song together called 'Oh Mississippi', a hymn to where she grew up. This song is a wonderful modern take on Fleetwood Mac I reckon - also check out her cover of Nothing Else Matters by Metallica!

7: Dr John - Such A Night
I once watched Dr John at the Montreux Jazz festival in 2007, front row; it was mind-blowing. He's the coolest old person at the festival by a mile.

8: Ray Davies - Waterloo Sunset
Godlike.

9: Stevie Wonder - I just called to say I love you
I actually really really want to hear this at Glastonbury. On mushrooms.

10: Shakira - She-Wolf
If she re-enacts the music video on stage that's good enough for me.

11: Devendra Banhart - Baby
I love this song, especially the BV choo choos.

  • Ed is the most under-rated singer composer of the last ten years. Every track of all his albums are great. There is not any which are not a pleasure to listern to. His albums all follow with each track building up to the mood he is in.
