Best Coast - Boyfriend
Boyfriend is the ultimate teenage dry your eyes and get over it song, feeling as though it has been ripped right out of the diary of a female version of J.D Salinger's Holden Caulfield. The backdrop to a heartfelt idealised crush on an unattainable suitor is that of a dreamlike beach scene conjured up using echoed vocals and shimmering guitar hooks.
In actuality these are not the musings of a teenager coming to terms with life and love. Behind the purposefully naive lyrics is 23-year-old Bethany Cosentino. She had the stage and screen in her sights at a young age, having been a child singer and actress. At the age of 15 her songwriting had major labels queuing up but turned them down. Now accompanied by her ex-babysitter Bobb Bruno, Best Coast are aiming to take their slice of Beach pop to foreign shores.
Having only formed last summer, the LA duo will release their debut UK single Boyfriend on 16th August from their album Crazy For You, set to precede the single on 2nd August. After a recent tour in May they will also return with support from Sky Larkin for an album launch party in London.
