Mona - Listen To Your Love

Mona, an Ohio raised four-piece have pretty much all the right things going for them for chart success. Now based in Nashville, lead singer Nick Brown had what is described in the press release as a "fractious musical and spiritual upbringing" aswell as a passion for rock'n'roll, and no doubt the vintage black and white look of the '50s as their MySpace is adorned with classic photographs of Elvis, Muhammed Ali and Marilyn Monroe to name but a few.

Equipped with a quiff James Dean would've been proud of, Nick describes his rock'n'roll inspiration this way, "I saw how a song could enrage, heal, speak love, seduce, calm, provoke, challenge and surrender. All in three minutes. That's what we're all about."

Whilst they may draw heavily on the '50s imagery and energy, some of their musical sound can be more more accurately described to those that haven't heard them using more contemporary reference points. The debut single on their own label Listen To Your Love sounds something along the lines of an anthemic '80s U2 vocal and guitar melded with the scuzzy rock sound of early Kings Of Leon and a riff reminiscent of The Knack's My Sharona.

It's hard to judge them fully as a band yet as there's only a couple of tracks so far (one other demo on their MySpace), if their song-writing continues at the current pace (750 songs in the past 18 months apparently) and is as hook laden, their debut album next year will likely garner alot of attention.

Debut single Listen To Your Love is out on September 13, on ZION NOIZ Recordings.
