Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly And Huw Stephens Discuss The New Record

Sam Duckworth's third album is no caper. The man himself will be talking to Huw exclusively for Q and guiding us through the new record. He builds upon his previously explored acoustic textures by adding a new hip-hop inspired, beat laced layer. Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly, was written and recorded over a two year period at his Hoxton base and also at Brixton's Dairy Studios. What emerged from these sessions was an imaginative genre fusing new direction, not shying away from experimentation with electronic elements.

The first single to be taken from the album, Collapsing Cities, was a collaboration with drum'n'bass outfit, Shy FX, this gave a new landscape to Duckworth's observational vocal melodies. Find out what brought about his rediscovered love of the beats that infuse this album, as well as gaining an insight into his poetic lyrics by watching this three part video series. The interview is interspersed with some amazing acoustic performances which give a flavour of the foundations from which the songs were built.

In today's video Duckworth explains how his collaboration with Shy FX was a huge learning curve which he took more from than working with any other previous artist of producer. His decision to create a more spacious sound while also keeping the intensity expected was no accident, the two have been making music together for over a year. After scrapping over 50 tracks in a self enforced quality control, this record is a standout release.
