Jonny - Continental
Norman Blake of Teenage Fanclub and (ex-Gorky's) Welsh musician Euros Childs have been working together under their new guise as Jonny. The pair are co-writing an album which is set for release in early 2011 on Alsatian Records.
The duo have been rehearsing together sporadically over the last few years whenever time has allowed in amongst their other projects and occasionally playing the odd show or two. Now the potential promise of these snatched collaborations are to be realised with a full release. A free EP will be the first offering from the project, in the running for the award for most literal title of 2010 (if such a thing existed), it will be called simply Free EP.
The EP will be available online from November 10 and tracks already penned for the disc include three new songs, and a cover of 60's band Twenty Third Turnoff's Michael Angelo.
Jonny are also taking to the road from 19 January, so you'll be able to catch them live on a 16 date tour through to late February. This track, the third off the EP is exclusive to Q and contains the melodic warmth expected from the new group, plus a glimpse into their relaxed recording environment. Our favourite line in it so far is "But since the day she came along / I'm eating pink grapefruit in a sarong", if the Beach Boys had ever sang with a wry smile about spousal-endorsed dietary improvement and it may have come out something like this. Now, where did we put those bran flakes...
