Mark Ronson & The Business INTL - Somebody To Love Me
Tonight Q hosts Mark Ronson & The Business Intl as the suspense builds towards the announcement of the winners in the 2010 Q Awards. Ronson's Record Collection itself features some huge names within it. His third single to be taken from this album, Somebody To Love features Boy George but as if that wasn't enough also boasts to having Jake Shears of Scissor Sisters, Cathy Dennis (Kylie Minogue's Can't Get You Out Of My Head), Anthony Rossomando of Dirty Pretty Things/Klaxons and Andrew Wyatt of Miike Snow amongst its songwriters! Ronson is certainly well connected.
Boy George's vocals here are as soulful as ever, while being brilliantly complimented by those of Andrew Wyatt who adds his falsetto sound to Ronson's production. All this is complemented with a tribal drum beat, producing a thoroughly modern soulful sound.
Rose Elinor Dougall - Find Me Out
Former member of The Pipettes, Rose Elinor Dougal, is in support of Ronson tonight. She has previously played with The Business Intl on television and is part of his Record Collection in the form of vocals, songwriting, and instrumentation. She also made a cameo on the video for previous single The Bike Song which features the frontman of The View.
Her debut album Without Why was released in August this year to warm critical acclaim. Below is the recent single Find Me Out, an introspective, self-reflecting search which vastly contrasts the version of Dougall those only familiar with the with her work in the previous pop trio will be aware of. Here she displays a greater lyrical maturity having chosen to go it alone, but nonetheless manages to retain her ability to court a catchy chorus.
Tinashe - Decency
Originally from Zimbabwe, spending the all important first ten years there, 25-year-old Tinashe then moved to Hackney. This mixture of cultures has impacted his sound heavily, creating a modern synth-pop sound with African influences. His new album Saved emphasises his struggle to get to this stage, having begun in such unlikely circumstances. Decency, the track below, is taken from the record. Tinashe will be the first performer impress this evening.
