Q Awards 2010 With Russian Standard Vodka: Winner Announcement
Ahead of the 21st Q Awards 2010 with Russian Standard Vodkathis coming Monday, Q is thrilled to announce the winners of two of The Awards categories today! This year's Inspiration Award presented by HMV and the Q Classic Songwriter Award can both be revealed.
The Inspiration Award presented by HMV
Suede will be honoured with the Inspiration Award. One of the most prominent pop acts of the 90's, they radically changed the boundaries of the genre after stepping into the shoes left vacant by The Smiths. Led by frontman Brett Anderson and guitar wizard Bernard Butler, their self-titled debut album of 1993 and the follow-up Dog Man Star, were a shot in the arm for British guitar music. Too good to last, they proved the old adage the light that burns twice as bright burns half as long.
The group split in 2002, but reformed earlier this year for a brace of new shows. Suede are in fantastic form and their legendary status is standing the test of time, with a Best Of due for release in November. The award is in perfect timing as they have a huge sold out O2 arena date to look forward to in December.
The Q Classic Songwriter Award 2010 goes to... Neil Finn.
The man who began his musical career in Split Enz with his brother Tim in 1977. Neil has captivated audiences in his native New Zealand and around the wider world. He has captivated audiences for years with his richly melodic songwriting gifts. He and drummer Paul Hester went on from Split Enz to Crowded House, and in doing so enjoyed even greater success - with Finn crafting such gems as Don't Dream It's Over and Weather With You.
Continuing to write and tour as both a solo artist and with a reformed Crowded House, Neil has created a body of work that is original, uncompromising and timeless. The antipodean equivalent of Lennon and McCartney, his Classic Songwriter award is a thoroughly deserved accolade.

So pleased, and proud of the songwriting genius that is Neil Finn!! Although, an award for the Best Classic Songwriter in the History of the World may have been a better title (in my opinion), but still...fantastic news! Can't wait until Sunday!!
