Kano - Spaceship
One of grime's original and most influential players, Kano began as a member of N.A.S.T.Y crew before going it alone. If Wiley is to be considered the godfather of grime then Kane Brett Robinson is something of a Theo Walcot figure, showing heaps of early promise. The two met for an influential rap battle when the latter was just 17. His quick witted freestyling and an ability to stand on the same level as one of the genres biggest names made friends and foes alike take notice.
Debut album Home Sweet Home saw an immergence into the mainstream, hot on the heels of Dizzee Rascal who released his Mercury Prize winning Boy In Da Corner just two years earlier. Unfortunately the Walcot analogy holds true. While grime took off to take on the world Kano missed the plane, having only moderate success after such early ambition. Follow-ups London Town and 140 Grime Street failed to plant him in the top ten.
Now with his fourth LP, Method To The Maadness, the East Ham born Londoner has reinvented himself with an eye on electro rap. Wearing My Rolex was a huge departure from Wiley's usual signature sound and Tongue n' Cheek saw Dizzee move into similar territory, Tiny Tempah has had a great year with his beat heavy debut too. Kano is set to place his name on this list with new single Spaceship coming out on 29 November.
The track sees production duties given to drum'n'bass heroes, Chase & Status, who hand over an aggressive yet commercial dubstep instrumental set to have subwoofer's exploding in every club this is bound to be played in. Adding to this are thoughtful lyrics exploring the trappings of fame and celebrity culture. Spaceship is certainly a return to form and will once again have people take notice of an often forgotten UK talent.

Theo Walcott of the uk rap scene???? do some research , Kano is widely regarded as the best UK rapper, by real grime fans, anyway nice to see some recognition for the UK'S best!
