Kassidy - Oh My God
Glasgow's Kassidy have drawn vast comparisons to varied acts from Mumford & Sons to Kings Of Leon. Their Rubbergum EP Volume 3, set for release on November 22, is the third and final instalment of the series leading up to a full length release. Produced by Gang Of Four's bassist Tom McNiece, the lead track Oh My God will also be released on Monday.
The quartet consists of four bearded men, Barrie-James O'Neill, Hamish Fingland, Lewis Andrew and Chris Potter. Despite the extensive facial hair, originally for some reason Kassidy were not aware of their folk based calling. One night during a practice session while playing a stripped back version of an already written song the harmonies were given more space to breathe and the band found a compelling sound. Each member contributes vocally, making for melodious choral hooks which work well acoustially in a Fleet Foxes fashion.
Their early music was made in a way reminiscent of Beefheart's rehearsals during the Trout Mask Replica stage. Everyone in the band lived under the same roof. The apartment was converted hastily into a recording studio, windows and natural sunlight were sacrificed so that spontaneous jamming sessions could last all night. The result is a sound set to escape the small setting to take on the world.
