Pete Lawrie - All That We Keep
This Welsh singer-songwriter is giving away a free download of his previous single All That We Keep exclusively to Q. His eclectic musical tastes stem from a rich immersion as a child. Lawrie was raised listening to the sounds of Stevie Wonder, Pink Floyd, Elton John and The Beatles. His grandfather played on the original recording of Strawberry Fields Forever and his mother plays the oboe in an opera.
Lawrie was handed a trumpet by his grandfather when he was just ten years old, and by age fifteen had begun to learn the piano as well as delving into the world of the DJ, learning to scratch and cut records in the process. He eventually formed The Lawries while at university with two old schoolmates he still plays with today, gaining praise from Rob Da Bank for his early work.
The new EP, In The End, is a great example of Lawrie's dexterity, with three wide ranging tracks and a respectful cover of Wainwright III's Motel Blues. A gravel-weighted husky voice with experience beyond its years blends beautifully with his crafty compositions. The debut album is also due for release early next year as the momentum behind this wonderful talent builds increasingly quickly.
