Robert Francis - Junebug
23-year-old American songwriter Robert Francis is set to release his new album, a major label debut, Before Nightfall on 29 November through Atlantic Records. He has previously been compared to the likes of Bruce Springsteen and Townes Van Zandt while also being seen as one of the next generation of alt-country acts like Wilco and Ryan Adams.
Francis doesn't just write songs in a cathartic attempt to rid himself of a metaphorical burden, but feels compelled to express complete honesty and openness so as to make a true connection with the listener. His first record, 2007's indie release, One By One, came from the breakdown of a relationship and the emotional turmoil that presented him with. This upcoming release looks back on that relationship through the healing prism of time and finds hope in starting over and moving on to something new with a renewed sense of optimism.
As a youngster, Robert Francis once received a guitar from Ry Cooder as an encouraging present. Now Cooder features on the new record with slide guitar. Also Francis' sisters, Juliette and Carla Commagere, lend a homespun charm by providing backing vocals. After the album gets its full UK release he will be making a visit to the UK on 4 December.
