Moshi Moshi never ceases to amaze do they? One might think that after having helped launch the likes of Bloc Party, Florence, Lykke Li, Mates of State, Kate Nash and The Drums, the laws of social saturation would send them in a downward spiral. But thankfully they still produce some of the most fascinating up-and-comers around. No wonder they are arguably the most blogged-about label ever.
One of their latest signings, Oxford trio Trophy Wife, pleased our ears late last year with their debut single Microlite, and are now back with the follow-up, a double whammy of singles The Quiet Earth and White Horses.
It's been some years since electropop conquered the land of indie, thereby prompting hordes of skinny jeans-wearing bloc heads to relent their guitars in favour of synths and drum machines. Trophy Wife, it seems, belong with those who felt trapped between the two and decided to make the best of it. This double A-side is an intricate, yet dancefloor-friendly slice of beautifully constructed and guitar-filled electropop that owes as much to New Order via Cut Copy and Yeasayer as to Wild Beast or even Dirty Projectors. It's as clever and introspective as you'd expect from a band from Oxford, but still with plenty of charming naivety. Want proof? Check out the delightful video for The Quiet Earth.
