  • Where have Alex Turners wonderful lyrics gone? Did the drummer write this? Is that why he is singing it? It will be a grower but a bit disapointed by this first listen from the album.

  • Awesome song!!! this is the real sound from the Artic Monkeys after the weird "humbug" which was not a bad album but a bit off from what the Artic Monkeys got me used to.

  • I must admit that I wasn't blown away the first time I heard "Brick By Brick", but it grew on me after a couple of listens and now that I've heard "Don't Sit Down 'Cause I've Moved Your Chair" I really can't wait to hear the full album. I like the way they have evolved their sound with every album, but have still managed to retain the sense that they're the most important British band to have emerged since The Libertines.

There is no getting away from the fact that the lyrics aren't as engaging as the first couple of albums, but who cares?! They've been to LA to record this album and hung out with Josh Homme to record Humbug and have obviously soaked up these influences and translated that to their sound. I personally don't want to listen to a rehashed "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not"...I'd much rather have the choice between the original and something that has matured and evolved.

"Don't Sit Down 'Cause I've Moved Your Chair" sounds like it could have been recorded by The Black Angels or Darker My Love but it hasn't been, it's been recorded by Arctic Monkeys, which is great because more people will get to hear brilliant music!

I'm looking forward to June and the album, and I'm looking forward to the next one and the one after that...

  • Humbug is their best work - the most sophisticated songwriting they've demonstrated. Complexity and simplicity in perfect harmony, with narratives in just about every song that are compelling and interesting. The hooks, the drops, the high intensity, the rhythms, all dynamic and nothing static on the album at all. I really enjoyed the first two but Humbug is brilliant. Weird? Your weird for making that comment.

This new album sounds like a disaster. I'm really bummed they dumbed it down so much - maybe it's about ubiquitous commercial success, or maybe they just don't have it in them anymore. Nevertheless it's a huge let down. Three songs have now been released and not a single one of the three even comes close to any of their previous works.
