Everything Everything - Final Form

Comments

everythingeverythingfight16

Final Form is set to be the fourth and final single from Everything Everything's debut success, Man Alive. These four mancunians have gained a reputation for creating quirky, intricate indie-pop with huge appeal. This adventurous attitude was put to the test recently as the full album was recreated with an orchestra in London's Union Chapel.

Falsetto vocals when mixed with distinctively atypical rhythms have lent a light-hearted element to their sound. Those who remember the comical previous single, Photoshop Handsome, and its video in which frontman Jonathan Higgs is defaced throughout, will know that this is not a reputation the band have played down.

Final Form however acknowledges a more serious side. Still done in their own innovative way, here is an exploration into the ageing process. "First body, last body," sings Higgs, accompanied by sombre guitar picking. Thoughtful lyrics intertwine with an unmistakably distinguishing sound. "I'm gonna renew my sinew until my cells divide no more," are the last words uttered, before an incomprehensable muttering reminiscent of Radiohead's Fitter, Happier ends it all.

But don't worry there's still plenty of time to catch the band before they go back to the studio as three UK dates have just been confirmed in May, not to mention a slot on the John Peel Stage at Glastonbury Festival on Sunday 26th June.

  • They're not "mancunian" - they're based in Manchester, not born there.

Classic signs of a lazy journalist.
