City And Colour - Fragile Bird

Comments

It's pretty uncommon for a singer who plays in a visceral and successful post-hardcore band to then match that success with a toned-down and soulful side project, but that's exactly what Dallas Green, aka City And Colour, has done. As the rhythm guitarist and backing vocalist in Alexisonfire, Dallas added an entirely new dimension to their music, juxtaposing the in-your-face power of the hardcore sound with his haunting vocal work, best seen on tracks such as This Could Be Anywhere In The World.

Embarking on a solo career in 2004, C&C has since won two JUNO awards, for debut album Sometimes and sophomore release Bring Me Your Love respectively. He returns
this June with third album Little Hell. On it is Fragile Bird, Green's typically delicate vocal work presiding over melody driven guitars, slightly reminiscent of Grizzly Bear. The song definitely has a more rustic feel than its predecessors, differing from the resonant yet clear acoustic sound of songs like Coming Home. If Fragile Bird is anything to go by, we're looking at another great LP from the Canadian musician, and an exciting change in both pace and sound. Have a listen below and see if you agree.
