The Blackout - Higher And Higher

Comments

The first single to be taken from their third album, Hope, which was released on Monday, Higher & Higher sees Welsh sextet The Blackout further their attack on the mainstream without compromising their punk rock roots and sensibilities. Flitting between sensual, smouldering verses and all-out rock riffery, it also features a guest appearance from rising rapper Hyro Da Hero - who looks set to become a household name in the not too distant future.

Still, on this evidence, it seems that it could well be The Blackout's turn first. Accompanied by a video that's just as fast-paced as the song, Higher & Higher demonstrates the band's versatility and the way they've evolved since starting out in Merthyr Tydfil back in 2003. Although still edgy and raw, the band have channelled their visceral aggression and energy into crafting a song that's as catchy as it is fierce, and as poppy as it is antagonistic.

Not only that, but it's a song that sounds 'big' - you can easily imagine them following in the footsteps of, say Lostprophets and playing to cavernous venues not just around the country but around the world. Full of driving passion (quite literally, if you watch the video) and energetic hooks, Higher And Higher is a song that should take them, well...yeah, you got it. It certainly lives up to its name.
