Brighton angular-indie trio Tall Ships have been quickly collecting plaudits since last year's There Is Nothing Here But Chemistry EP, a sharp effort that spelled out their energetic intentions and copious talent. Their new single, Hit The Floor, delivers more of the same, darting through a frenetic three and half minutes of thundering percussive stomps, distorted shouts and abrasive guitars. The resulting din is thrilling - imagine Les Savy Fav sparring with Battles or Foals and you're nearly there. It's biting, brilliant and certain to rope you in.
The group have been around for a few years now and have since earned a reputation as one of the UK's most boisterous live bands - for good reason, too. This release captures the kinetic might of their riotous live performances, beginning at a blistering pace before collapsing in a dissonant mess of crisp guitar loops and pounding drums mid-way through. It neatly showcases their tuneful side too, as the band thread catchy vocal lines and infectious guitar melodies through the tides of noise adeptly.
Topping this exhilarating release will be a tall order for Tall Ships, but one they're sure to make light work of. They're on tour throughout May with the equally impressive Three Trapped Tigers, so be to be sure to check them out in person.
