The Barbican and the Canadian Independent Music Association are to put on a showcase of Canadian visual arts and music on 2 July. Canadian Blast is part of Barbican's Blaze Summer Concert Series, where they play host to some of the most exciting new sights and sounds in Canadian music and film. The Hidden Cameras play their only London show of the summer in the main hall, while other acts include Woodpigeon with a full band (his only London show as well), Devon Sproule, Mantler, Sandro Perri, Ryan Driver and a brass section. Chilly Gonzales will also play a rare piano set, while a DJ set by Ghostcat in the foyer of the building will round off the evening.
Canadian Blast is the showcasing brand of CIMA, the Canadian Independent Music Association. With its headquarters based in the capital, it's dedicated to enlightening Europe of the best of contemporary Canadian arts. The day is the second of two days celebrating Canadian music, following on from the annual Canada Day celebrations in Trafalgar Square on 1 July. Together, these events represent the largest Canada Day Celebrations outside of Canada.
Tickets for the performance in the main hall will range for £12.50 to £20, while foyer performances and film screenings will be free. All tickets purchases will come with a code for free download tracks from each of the showcasing artists, as well as other artists showcasing at Canadian Blast Events.
