Beyonce, Vaccines, Laura Marling... The 10 best bands of Glastonbury Day Three

Comments

Following the closing day (26 June) of the 2011 Glastonbury Festival, here's Q's rundown of the ten best acts yesterday - we will have a round up of the best of the weekend later this week, plus the Q Glastonbury Review is on sale on site now - and nationwide via WH Smiths, all good newsagents and online from Wednesday.

Beyonce
Whatever question marks there were about the former Destiny's Child headlining the festival, they were soon turned into exclamation marks hailing the singer as Beyonce made the Pyramid Stage her own. Opening with Crazy In Love and covering both Prince (Beautiful Ones) and Kings Of Leon (Sex On Fire) in the same medley proved impressive. Even Tricky's non-event of a guest spot couldn't derail the new Glasto Queen.
Key track: Crazy In Love

Kaiser Chiefs
They might have let fans build their own versions of recent album Future Is Medieval, but it when it comes to the live show Kaiser Chiefs remain in charge. A bold and loud comeback from Leeds' angry mob.
Key track: Ruby

Don Maclean
Thrilling the farm with much-loved renditions of American Pie and Homeless Brother, Maclean's Pyramid Stage left no one unimpressed.
Key track: Vincent

Laura Marling
Despite playing the festival's biggest stage, the singer's set was as touching and intimate as her performance on the Park Stage last year. Backed by a Rolling Thunder Review-esque band, Marling made the step up to the Pyramid Stage with ease.
Key track: Hope In The Air

The Vaccines
No band covered more miles at this year's festival than The Vaccines, having played the Other Stage on Friday, they made the short hop to the John Peel Stage on Sunday via a festival in Madrid on their day off. However showing no signs of fatigue, the band were as chirpy and as effervescent as ever.
Key track: Nørgaard

Paul Simon
The revered folk-rocker's earthy tropical tones drew an enormous crowd at the Pyramid Stage just as the temperatures on site started to soar, and while some portions of the hit-hungry crowd grew might have grown a bit restless with the high content from latest album So Beautiful Or So What, the faithful were rewarded with the enthralling You Can Call Me Al in the encore.
Key track: Kodachrome

Queens Of The Stone Age
A tough gig going up against Beyonce, even tougher letting the fans pick the setlist via a vote. So how did Josh Homme fare? What do you think, he rocked Glastonbury a new one of course.
Key track: No One Knows

Pendulum
Pure festival Marmite, it seemed that as many people were fleeing their Pyramid Stage set as those who turned up especially to see them, but in terms of staking a claim towards mainstream festival domination, Pendulum took a massive set forward. "We will return," they declared as they left the stage. Don't bet against it.
Key track: Watercolour

The Streets
It might be the Glastonbury farewell for Mike Skinner as The Streets but the geezer ensured there was plenty of excitement at the John Peel Stage. Emotional but also berserk, just as a Streets gig should be.
Key track: Fit But You Know It

Bombay Bicycle Club
Having taking an acoustic siesta with their last album, it was back to cranked up amps and soaring rock n roll for Bombay Bicycle Club as they previewed a few bits from forthcoming album A Different Kind Of Fix (out August) and rocked out to a few crowd favourites.
Key tracks: Shuffle

Plus check out the ten best acts of Glastonbury day one and day two.
